Killed in Puducherry, head tossed in Tamil Nadu police station

PUDUCHERRY: The ongoing gang war here reached new levels of savagery on Wednesday night as a bunch of history-sheeters beheaded a 17-year-old boy in Puducherry and nonchalantly dropped off the severed head 10 km  away  inside  Reddichavady police  station in the bordering Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.
By doing so, gang leader Vinod Kumar of Irulaisandaipet sought to earn brownie points within his peer group and hoped to escape serving time in Puducherry jail, assuming he would land up in Cuddalore prison from where he could pull several strings, the police said.
Vinod (25), his associate Dass (18)  of Kudiyiruppupalayam and Sharma Vannan not only beheaded Suvedhan but also chopped off his wrist and arms. While Vinod and Dass have been arrested, Sharma Vannan is on the run.
According to Senior Superintendent of police (Law and Order) Rajiv Ranjan, Suvedhan of Kudiyiruppupalayam, Bahour, was a school drop-out and a juvenile delinquent who was associated with anti-social elements in the locality.
He had established connections with various criminals, including Vinod Kumar, Dass, Mathi, Susainathan and Ravisankar, who was murdered on April 24. By and by Suvedhan got identified with Susainathan’s gang, which was why he was murdered, the SSP said.
Some time back, Susainathan, his aides Maheswaran and a juvenile were taken into custody by the police. At that point, Suvedhan too had been questioned in a theft case, but was let off due to lack of evidence.
Assuming that Vinod had tipped off the police, Susainathan  and his gang planned to eliminate him. But Vinod got wind of it and found in Suvedhan a soft target.
On Wednesday evening, Vinod, Dass and Sharma Vannan went to a vacant plot opposite Bahour lake and had alcohol. Vinod then went to Suvedhan’s house, took him to the plot on his motorcycle and executed the murder with the help of other two, the SSP said.
CCTV footage from the Reddicha-vady police station show motorcycle-borne men stopping in front of the station and throwing the severed head into its premises and then riding away, the SSP said.
